What are Maryland Youth Apprenticeships?

An apprenticeship is an industry-driven program that provides students the opportunity to “earn and learn.” A Youth Apprentice participating in this program receives supervised, structured, on-the-job training from a mentor in a specific STEM-related occupation within the following industries:
  • Environmental, Agriculture, and Natural Resources
  • Business Management and Finance
  • Construction and Development
  • Health and Bio Sciences
  • Information Technology
  • Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology
Students work a minimum of 450 hours with a certified employer while also receiving related educational training at their high school or the FCPS Career and Technology Center. Students have an opportunity to apply through their school's Work Based Learning Coordinator.  Through Apprenticeship Maryland you are able to build a work force that meets your specific skill needs. Through on-the-job training learning and related classroom instruction, apprentices acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become experts in your field. Apprenticeship Navigators work with you to create a customized training plan that meets your company’s needs.
