
What is the Youth Apprenticeship Program?
- Juniors and seniors spend part of a school day in the workforce at an approved employer working with a mentor
- Gain marketable industry skills
- Earn a hourly wage - "Earn while you Learn"
- Be guided by an official training plan developed by the employer, your school's Work Based Learning Coordinator and student.
- Complete one year of related classroom instruction
- Receive regular feedback from the mentor and your school's WBL Coordinator.
- Prior to graduation, complete 450+ hours of on-the-job training and earn a State Skill Certification from the Maryland Department of Labor
- Earn weighted high school credits as a Youth Apprentice.
- A path towards employment after high school

How Do I Apply to the Youth Apprentice Program?
Step 1 Speak to your high school's Work Based Learning Coordinator (WBL) -see Contact tab above - and let them know you're interested in the Youth Apprentice Program. Review the Current Openings tab and find one that aligns to your skills and career interests.
Step 2 Complete and submit an application packet to your WBL, not the employer, by the deadlines before the semester.
Step 3 FCPS will send your application to employers who will contact you for an interview. If hired, you will work with your WBL to coordinate your school schedule and get the Youth Apprentice Program Agreement and disclosures signed by all parties.

1. Youth Apprenticeship Maryland Student Application Form - see button above
2. Cover Letter - should address the following (one letter for each position if applying to more than one opening):
Submit all the above to the Work Based Learning Coordinator at your high school, not the employer.
2. Cover Letter - should address the following (one letter for each position if applying to more than one opening):
- Why you want to be a youth apprentice
- How your career interests relate to the apprentice position
- How related high school courses you are currently taking or taken will help your success in the apprentice position
- Why employer should consider hiring you as a youth apprentice
- Career Objective
- Education (courses/training you have completed that support your qualifications and interest in the Youth Apprenticeship Maryland Program)
- Personal Strengths
- High School Awards and Honors
- Volunteer and Community Service
- Extra-curricular activities
- Employment information (including unpaid internships)
- Additional Skills, Hobbies
Submit all the above to the Work Based Learning Coordinator at your high school, not the employer.
